Even though Rotterdam is only one hour by train from Amsterdam (net of rail traffic continuous delays, obvs), until the very last moment I wasn’t sure I could make it to Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019, the second edition of the international urban art festival Pow! Wow! to take place in The Netherlands.
I’m happy I did.
The sun was shining on Rotterdam’s modern architectures, my fellow street art bloggers were in town and I could update my Rotterdam Street Art Travel Map with 11 brand new murals. Enjoy the photos!
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Danny Rumbl (NL)
Local illustrator and artist Danny Rumbl painted his colorful cartoon characters inspired by Hanna-Barbera animation studio
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Didier Jaba Mathieu (BE)
Thankfully, Didier Jaba Mathieu was still painting on Sunday!
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Dodici (IT)
Italian artist Dodici is now based in Rotterdam! I’m looking forward to catching up with him soon ;)
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Dourone (ES / FR)
Yet one more mural of colorful glitches by Dourone
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Murmure (FR)
Is it a bird shaped as a trash bag or a trash bag shaped as a bird? Either way, I love this garbage bird by Murmure
They also left a spontaneous piece only a few streets away…
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Nina Valkhoff (NL)
Local illustrator and artist Nina Valkhoff painted two cute yet uncommon animals
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Said Kinos (NL)
Local artist Said Kinos‘ piece is all about letters!
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Slinkachu (UK)
It was quite challenging to spot Slinkachu‘s miniatures in the festival crowd. I only found these 3 under a bench at the botanical gardens
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Spenser Little (USA)
Easier to spot were the wire installations by Spenser Little, perhaps my favorite artworks at Pow! Wow! Rotterdam
The two artists also did a ‘little’ collaboration, which unfortunately got stolen after only a few hours…
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Smok (BE)
Graffiti artist Smok painted a bit away from the festival area, and on a boat to boot!
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Smug (AU) x Telmo Miel (NL)
Stunning collaboration between Smug and local duo Telmo Miel! Undoubtedly the most photographed piece of Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019!
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Super A (NL)
Dutch muralist Super A painted one of his iconic ribbon pieces
Pow! Wow! Rotterdam 2019 > Woes (USA)
Pow! Wow! festival started out in Hawaii 8 years ago, a legacy carried out in Rotterdam by Hawaiian artist Woes
